Borussia Dortmund crashed out of the Europa League on Thursday evening as they were defeated by Rangers.
Dortmund had their backs against the wall after losing 4-2 in the first leg in Germany.
As if BVB’s anger about the embarrassing elimination in the second round against Glasgow Rangers wasn’t big enough, the black and yellow are now threatened with real trouble within the team.
A scene from the Europa League second leg is causing a swirl on the Internet. In it you can see how Jude Bellingham, one of the few stars who convinced on the pitch, violently insulted his teammate Nico Schulz after he gave him a bad pass.
With the score at 2:2, BVB still needs two goals to make it into extra time. Coach Marco Rose throws everything forward to create a miracle after the desolate 2: 4 in the first leg.
Bellingham wanted to win so badly and so, with the tie slipping away from Dortmund in the latter stages, frustration got the better of the youngster.
Nico Schulz plays a sloppy ball towards Bellingham in the 78th minute, but was impossible for the Englishman to control the pass.
Bellingham, who appears extremely motivated, is greedy in duels and equalizes to make it 1-1 (31st), gets angry. After throwing his arms in the air from the frustration, cameras zoom in on the young Englishman he appeared to shout at the German left-back: “You can’t get one f****** pass off, you’re f****** shit. Every f****** time.”
Schulz shows a poor performance again this evening. He surprisingly replaced the ailing Guerreiro in the starting XI, then played a catastrophic bad pass before the 0: 1, which meant the supposedly early goal knockout initiates.
After all: the often scolded BVB flop cannot be blamed for a lack of (running) effort. Schulz puts on a mega sprint shortly before the end and saves from the next safe goal with a slide tackle.
After the two early exits in the cup competitions (round of 16 in the DFB Cup, intermediate round in the Europa League), nerves are on edge.
Bellingham was disappointed with his side’s performance after the game.
“It was brilliant to play in. A good team, a good test,” he said, per Goal.
“We didn’t have the bite we had in the first half. It’s just one of those nights, we didn’t take all our chances and they took theirs, fair play to them.
“We’ve let the fans, the staff and ourselves down. If we look at ourselves in the mirror, we’ll realise we could’ve done more.”
