Antonio Conte gives Romero injury update

Antonio Conte reveals £47m defender Cristiano Romero will NOT play again this year because of a ‘very serious’ hamstring injury… with the Argentine potentially out until February

Tottenham’s Cristian Romero will not play again this year and Antonio Conte fears the Argentina centre-half might not play again for three months.

Romero damaged a hamstring on international duty last month and has not played for Spurs since the draw at Everton on November 7.

‘The news is not positive, not good,’ said Conte. ‘The injury is serious. I think it will take time to see him again.

‘It will be next year. January, February, I don’t know but for sure, in 2021, he has finished playing.

‘We have to wait and to recover well but the injury is serious. We need to check his injury week by week but the injury is serious.

‘He is trying to recover but he needs a long time. He needs time to recover. It’s a pity because you know he’s an important player for us.’
