Aston Villa goalkeeper linked with a £50m transfer at rival team

The Daily Star claims that Martinez sits on a list of potential goalkeeper targets for Man United and they consider him as a ‘highly suitable candidate’ to be a number one at the club.

The report adds that if current number one David de Gea is uprooted before his contract ends in June 2023, United could make a £50million swoop for Martinez.
The Argentina stopper has been a stand-out performer for Villa over the past 15 months since joining from Arsenal in September 2020 and is now regarded as one of the best in Europe in his position.

Martinez has already rubbished claims that he might be getting cold feet at Villa Park amid his impressive form for club and country over the past year.

He said at the start of the season: “Obviously, I finished the Copa America, and they might be worried about new clubs coming in for me, or for me to play for a Champions League club, and the first thing I said to the sporting director was ‘I want to be here’.”
