Aston Villa have been linked with a move for Brazil international Gabriel Barbosa – also known as Gabigol
Aston Villa continue to be linked with a January transfer window move for free-scoring Brazil international Gabriel Barbosa.
Gabigol has been in sensational goal scoring form for Flamengo since returning to Brazil permanently in 2020 following a failed stint at Inter Milan.
The 25-year-old has scored 42 goals in 60 league games for Flamengo, including 12 in 18 appearances in 2021.
His form has earned him a spot in Brazil’s national team, where he plays alongside Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz, and the striker has five goals in 17 caps to date.
Gabigol has recently been linked with a return to Europe, and Premier League clubs are reportedly queuing up to sign him.
West Ham, Newcastle United, Everton and Arsenal have been linked with the striker, in addition to Villa.
Gabigol reportedly has his heart set on a move to the Premier League and he’s revealed his plans to follow in Brazil teammate Roberto Firmino’s footsteps.
Back in 2019, Gabigol told the Daily Mail: “Firmino is great, I really admire him. He’s been successful for many years in Europe.
“He is a powerful forward and he has been great for Brazil. He is an inspiration that I look up to.
