After a summer of speculation regarding the future of Harry Kane, it seems that new Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has set his sights on Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic as the England’s captain’s potential successor.
Tottenham join a host of suitors looking to sign the Serbian forward in the coming January window, with Fiorentina looking to sell rather than lose him for a cut-price fee next summer after contract talks broke down.
Italian outlet TuttoMercato report that Spurs are preparing a move for Vlahovic in the new year, putting them ahead of cross-city rivals Arsenaland Manchester City, who are also looking to bolster their attacks.
What would Vlahovic bring to the Premier League?
The 70 million pound-rated forward has been a revelation at Fiorentina, as the 21-year-old already has 11 goals for La Viola in Serie A this season, putting him at the top of the scoring charts.
Last season, he scored 21 goals in 34 starts in the league and is on track to better that this season, making him one of the most exciting prospects in European football at the moment
Standing at 6ft 2in, Vlahovic can play similarly to Harry Kane in being a target man who is good at holding up the ball and being the focal point in attack.
As well as this, he is a natural finisher. He usually has 2.8 shots per game with 1.3 of those on target, which makes for worrying reading for Premier League defences.
Conte in the know
New Spurs boss Antonio Conte will be no stranger to Vlahovic‘s talents after coming up against Fiorentina during his time at Inter.
In December 2019 Vlahovic scored a wonderful solo effort in stoppage time to draw 1-1 against Conte‘s side.
Since taking over at Tottenham, the Italian has been tasked with turning the side from nearly men to winners, and there is no doubt that Vlahovic is ready to take the next step in his career and test himself in the Premier League.
The question now will be whether or not Tottenham can beat some of Europe’s biggest clubs to his signature, with Bayern Munich and Manchester United reportedly joining the race to sign him.
Conte‘s struggling Tottenham side will need the likes of Vlahovic to give a much-needed freshness to their team and hope moving forward.
