Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal to sign Atalanta goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini on loan for at least the next 12 months.
New boss Nuno Espirito Santo is keen to find some more competition for current starter Hugo Lloris, with 34-year-old Joe Hart the only other senior goalkeeper on the books following the release of Paulo Gazzaniga.
As noted by Fabrizio Romano, the club have settled on Gollini and a deal has been agreed to bring the 26-year-old in on loan for the coming season, with the potential to keep him around for a little longer.
It is understood that the loan contract can be extended for another season, and there is also an option to purchase Gollini outright for around £13m.
Minor details are still being discussed, including the possibility of that option turning into an obligation if Gollini meets certain targets, but all the major obstacles have been overcome.
Gollini is now set to become the first signing under sporting director Fabio Paratici, who has made no secret of his desire to use his knowledge of Serie Awhen it comes to both transfers and the search for a new manager.
For Gollini, the move will bring a return to England for the first time since 2017, when he left Aston Villa on an initial loan to Atalanta before joining the Italian side outright in 2018.
The shot stopper also spent time in Manchester United‘s academy as a youngster but never made an appearance for the first team, although he does have 20 games of experience in the Championship with Villa from the 2016/17 season.
