Youri Tielemans has opened talks with Leicester City over a new deal

Youri Tielemans looks set to sign a new deal at Leicester City, in a move that will frustrate Premier League rivals Liverpool.

Sportsmail reported at the beginning of the month that the Foxes were looking to open talks with their diminutive Belgian star over a new £100,000-a-week contract after an impressive 24 months at the King Power Stadium.

Youri Tielemans is a key figure for Brendan Rodger and Leicester

The former Monaco midfielder has been one of the club’s stand-out performers under Brendan Rodgers, and has started all but one of their 25 Premier League matches this season.

And according to the Sun, Tielemans is set to prolong his stay in a move that will come as blow to transfer plans on Merseyside.

They claim the Belgium international was due to be a top target for Jurgen Klopp come this summer, with the German looking to enhance his squad after a dismal defence of their Premier League crown.

Speaking ahead of Leicester’s Europa League round-of-32 second-leg clash against Slavia Prague, however, Tielemans appeared set on staying put.

Asked if Leicester was a club capable of matching his own ambitions, the 23-year-old replied: ‘Why not?

Tielemans has been a key figure in Leicester’s success under Brendan Rodgers’ watch

‘This is a club where you have the best environment you can have, especially with the new training ground.

‘The people around you just want the best from you. It’s brilliant to be here and I really like it here.

‘You can’t predict the future or whether we are ready to win trophies but everything around the club and inside the club is already in place to produce success.’
