Victor Lindelof is back in the provisional Manchester United squad ahead of their Carabao Cup semi-final fixture against Man City on Wednesday night.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are just one win away from a Wembley showpiece final against Tottenham Hotspur as they prepare for the single-legged semi-final at Old Trafford.
Speaking ahead of the derby encounter the United manager revealed he has a ‘very strong squad’ available with Edinson Cavani and Phil Jones the only absentees.
Uruguayan forward Cavani will misses the game through suspension after he admitted an FA charge for his social media post after scoring against Southampton, while defender Jones remains sidelined through injury.
Lindelof trained with the rest of his United teammates on Tuesday morning and is in line for a return to the match day squad after he was spotted by MEN photographers arriving at the team hotel ahead of the game.
The Swede hasn’t featured since he was forced off due to his chronic back injury during the Boxing Day draw with Leicester.
“We’re disappointed not having Edinson involved, he’s probably the only one,” Solskjaer said at his pre-match press conference.
“And Phil Jones, who’s been very out for a long time, they’re the only two not available for selection, which is a good position to be in.”
“Victor has been training, he’s been with us,” later told club media. “Edinson is suspended. Apart from that we have a very strong squad to choose from.”
United are expected to name a strong team for the crucial semi-final encounter with goalkeeper Dean Henderson expected to come in and replace first-choice David de Gea in goal.
Henderson, 23, has been an ever present in the Carabao Cup this season and is yet to concede a goal in any of the three previous rounds.
“Donny has played well when he has had the chance,” Solskjaer said. “I think we are too quick sometimes to jump on, ‘oh he’s not playing, it’s a failure’, but you know we can see now.
