Arsenal ‘will break transfer record’ for new striker at the Emirates

Arsenal are certain to ‘break their transfer record’ as Mikel Arteta looks to welcome a new big-name frontman to the Emirates Stadium, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

The Gunners are set to see Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah depart when their respective contracts expire at the end of the season, so Arteta has started to target potential arrivals ahead of the transfer window reopening in the summer.

According to The Athletic, Arsenal are exploring the possibility of signing Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus.

The report suggests discussions between Gunners technical director Edu and the 54-cap Brazil international’s representatives have been taking place for a number of months and Jesus is thought to be open to the prospect of swapping the Etihad Stadium for north London.

Arsenal, along with London rivals West Ham United, have also been put on red alert after it emerged Everton are looking to cash-in on Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Suitors will have to dig deep in order to win the race for the Toffees frontman as his current employers were seeking as much as £60million in January.

Arteta has joined the race for Juventus’ Paulo Dybala, who is also wanted by Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United, ahead of his contract expiring at the season’s climax.

Brown believes Arsenal are preparing to splash the cash on a new focal point at the top end of the pitch.

The journalist feels qualifying for the Champions League will increase the Gunners’ chances of bringing a big-name centre forward to the Emirates Stadium.

Brown told GIVEMESPORT: “Arsenal will break their transfer record to sign a striker this summer, I’m convinced of it.

“They might buy two. If they were to get a cheaper deal for someone like Calvert-Lewin, it might be that they bring two strikers in of a lower fee.

“But I’m convinced they will try and break their transfer record to bring in a big, top-class, top of the range striker. If they’re in the Champions League, you can almost guarantee that they will get one.”
