Aston Villa have made AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie ‘a very interesting’ offer to join Steven Gerrard’s side in a free summer transfer, according to reports.
The 25-year-old is considered as one of the best midfielders in the Serie A and has long been linked to a Premier League switch, with Arsenal and Manchester United said to be battling for his signature.
Kessie is out of contract at the end of the season after five years at the San Siro. He arrived in Milan from Atalanta in 2017 in an initial two-year loan before joining for £24.5million.
The Ivory Coast international has held negotiations with the Serie A club throughout the season but no breakthrough has been made, paving the way for his exit.
Now Kessie is said to be close to agreeing a transfer to Barcelona as Sport claim a deal has ‘practically’ been clinched with the Catalan club.
But Calciomercato report that Villa have joined the race with a shock proposal for the midfielder, with Kessie set to confirm his preferred destination in ‘a few more days’.
The report adds that despite Villa’s ‘interesting’ offer, Barcelona remain in pole position to land the midfielder on a free transfer.
