Aston Villa tipped to swoop for 110-goal Premier League star

Transfer insider Dean Jones thinks Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard will be interested in signing Brentford’s Christian Eriksen this summer.

The 30-year-old has impressed at the Brentford Community Stadium and is thought to have caught the attention of Villa and several other Premier League sides.

What is the latest news involving Eriksen?

In six league appearances, Eriksen has scored one goal, which came against west London rivals Chelsea, and provided two assists. It is a good return, and it does not seem to have gone unnoticed.

According to a report from 90min, the Dane’s former club Tottenham, Villa, Crystal Palace, Everton, Newcastle United, West Ham and Fulham are all now interested in signing him.

After suffering that cardiac arrest last summer, there were doubts surrounding Eriksen, with even his ex-boss at Inter Milan Antonio Conte admitting that he is surprised by how quickly the attacking midfielder has returned to playing football again.

However, he has had no trouble at all and now seems to be a player wanted by half of the Premier League.

What has Jones said about Eriksen to Villa?

Jones thinks Eriksen is someone Gerrard has to be interested in and is the kind of player who the Villa manager may view as a potential catalyst for his team.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the football journalist said: “I think Gerrard has to be interested in Eriksen. We’ve seen already the impact he’s had at Brentford on results and on the players around him. It’s exactly the type of catalyst that Gerrard wants for his team.”

Should Villa sign Eriksen?

If Villa cannot buy Philippe Coutinho, who is currently on loan at Villa Park, then Eriksen would be a great alternative.

During his time at Tottenham, he was easily one of the best playmakers in the Premier League, with the Denmark international registering almost 100 assists during his time in north London.

Eriksen is also more than capable of finding the back of the net having scored 110 goals in his senior career.

Villa’s ambition these days may have some fans dreaming of both Eriksen and Coutinho. However, it is difficult to see where both No.10s would fit in the same team, so it may indeed have to be one or the other.

Whatever the case, targeting a player like Eriksen shows that Villa are heading in the right direction. If they can land him ahead of the likes of Tottenham and West Ham, it would be quite the statement.
