Dier and two other Tottenham defenders ‘not good enough’ and will be replaced in January

Eric Dier, Joe Rodon and Davinson Sanchez are “not good enough” for Tottenham, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Spurs have not had adequate centre-backs since Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.

Rodon has managed just 54 minutes of football under Antonio Conte despite his switch to a back three, a system which Rodon has thrived in for Wales.

The 24-year-old could be one of a number of players who leave the north London club next month.

A Spurs source told Football Insider earlier this week (6 December) they are laying the groundwork for an unprecedented January transfer spree.
Including young players, there could be as many as 10 incoming and outgoing transfers combined.

And Agbonlahor has suggested the defence should be Conte’s top priority.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I just don’t think Rodon is good enough, to be honest.

“Eric Dier I don’t think is good enough, Sanchez is not good enough.

“Spurs haven’t improved their centre-halves since Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen were there. They were good centre-halves, they were strong.

The centre-halves they have there are not good enough. I’m sure Conte, who bases his teams on their defence, will want to fix that problem by bringing in some centre-halves.”

Spurs have only lost one of five games since Conte took over from Nuno Espirito Santo last month (2 November).

They have kept three clean sheets in that time in Premier League games against Everton, Brentford and Norwich City.
