Everton want to sign German star praised by Pep Guardiola

Everton want Dennis Geiger as they prepare to battle with Portuguese giants Benfica in the race for the Hoffenheim midfielder.

The Toffees recruited in midfield over the summer by bringing back Idrissa Gueye and paying big money to sign Amadou Onana.

Add in Alex Iwob’s rise as a central midfielder and you would think that Frank Lampard would be pretty happy with his options.

However with Tom Davies continuing to suffer injury problems and Abdoulaye Doucoure only managing 183 minutes of league action this season, Everton could sign another midfielder.

The latest name on Kevin Thelwell’s radar is that of Hoffenheim ace Dennis Geiger.

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reports that Everton are keen to bring Geiger to Goodison Park.

It’s added that Benfica are also keen on Geiger though and may look to bring him to Portugal.

Plettenberg claims that the current feeling is that Geiger won’t receive a new contract at Hoffenheim.

The 24-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and it looks like he will be allowed to walk away for free.

Bundesliga clubs are keen too but Everton will have hope of luring him to the Premier League in January

Geiger has started 14 Bundesliga games this season, bagging one goal and two assists so far.

Geiger is a diminutive and technical midfielder who can control possession or dictate play from deep.

Maybe we therefore shouldn’t be surprised that Pep Guardiola is a big fan of Geiger.

Sport1 claimed in 2019 that Guardiola loves Geiger and wanted to bring him to Manchester City to bolster his midfield options.

That never happened and injuries over the years mean Geiger may never really get to that level now.

Still, Everton may be able to swoop in and bring him to England after all, adding a midfield metronome alongside the likes of Gueye, Onana and Iwobi.
