Gerrard has ‘high hopes’ for 20-goal gem at Villa Park

Cameron Archer is “one to keep an eye on” at Aston Villa this summer, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 20-year-old striker is currently on loan at Preston and has been scoring goals on a frequent basis for the Championship side.

After impressing in a number of competitions in the first half of the season, scoring 13 goals in as many games, including a hat-trick in a Carabao Cup tie against Barrow, Archer was sent out on loan to the second-tier to continue his progression.

Archer would mark his Preston debut by scoring in their 2-0 victory at West Brom at the end of January, and the striker hasn’t looked back since.

Overall, in 17 Championship matches, the youngster has scored an impressive sevengoals, which makes him the Whites’ second highest goalscorer this season despite being at Deepdale for just three months.

What did O’Rourke say about Archer?

Given his outstanding goalscoring record this term across all age groups, which stands at 20 goals in 30 matches, O’Rourke failed to rule out the possibility of Archer getting a chance in the first-team, but also believes that another loan deal could be smart.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “He’s definitely one to keep an eye out for, I know Villa have got high hopes for Cameron Archer.

“He’s done well when he’s been called upon in the Carabao Cup and the other competitions for Aston Villa. He’s gone to Preston, and he’s had a good spell there. He definitely knows where the back of the net is. Maybe another move to the Championship is the right move for his development.”

Archer has already proven himself as someone who knows how to score goals, and in a tough league like the Championship.

However, not only are Aston Villa expected to splash the cash this summer, but in Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings, they’ve already got two extremely capable Premier League strikers in their squad.

Therefore, as O’Rourke mentioned above, perhaps another loan spell to the Championship, which should only benefit the youngster moving forward, might be the best move for his development.
