AC Milan open talks with Aston Villa player

Milan have turned to Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz after struggling for Renato Sanches and should have the upper hand over Roma.

The Rossoneri had locked down two players from LOSC early in the summer, Sven Botmanand Renato Sanches, but the delays in getting the all-clear for funding to battle higher bids from Newcastle United for the defender and Paris Saint-Germain for the midfielder saw them drift away.

Now the race is on to seek cheaper and easier-to-achieve alternatives in those tactical roles.

According to Tuttomercatoweb and Radio Rossonera, Milan today met with the entourage of Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz.

The 24-year-old Brazilian had already been linked with a Serie A switch to Roma, but Milan have the advantage of being a bigger club, the Scudetto holders and of course Champions League football.

He has nine caps for Brazil at senior level and his contract with Villa runs out in June 2023, so he is on the market.

The former Manchester City, Girona and Vasco da Gama talent made 34 Premier League appearances this season, contributing two goals and three assists
