Everton closing in on permanent deal for Tottenham star

Everton are closing in on the permanent signing of Dele from Tottenham this afternoon.

Frank Lampard was only officially confirmed as Everton manager today but he wants to revitalise the career of Dele, after a difficult few years for the England midfielder.

Dele has only started eight league games this season — and just seven last campaign — and was made available for transfer in the January window.

Newcastle United were expected to come in for Dele this month but that never materialised.

Lampard, however, is determined to bring Dele to Goodison Park to bring some goals back into his midfield, potentially alongside Donny van de Beek. The Athletic reported on Sunday that the Manchester United midfielder had decided to join Everton on loan, with a deadline day move anticipated.

The move marks the end of Dele’s association with Tottenham, seven years after he joined from MK Dons.

He has played 269 games for Spurs and scored 67 goals, as well as winning PFA Young footballer of the year twice
