Fearless talent travelling to undergo Newcastle medical as £3m deal agreed

Newcastle United are set to sign Harrison Ashby after agreeing a deal worth around £3million to sign the West Ham United right back.

That’s according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie, who reports that Newcastle have finally agreed a move for Ashby.

The Magpies wanted to sign Ashby over the summer but West Ham wouldn’t allow him to leave.

Yet with Ashby out of contract at the end of the season and showing no interest in staying at West Ham, a deal is now being done.

It’s stated that Newcastle have an agreement in place worth £3million including add-ons.

Ashby will now head up to Tyneside for a medical and will seemingly join Anthony Gordon in making a late move to Newcastle.

Ashby, 21, was in the Chelsea ranks as a kid before linking up with West Ham United.

The son of former Gillingham defender Barry Ashby, Harrison has featured regularly for West Ham across various age ranges.

First-team football has been hard to come by though with Ashby recording just seven appearances – and just one came in the Premier League.

There appears to have been a stand-off with Ashby unwilling to commit until he plays first-team action, and West Ham unwilling to give him senior appearances until he signs a new deal.

A Scotland youth international, Ashby will now head to Newcastle to serve as cover and competition for Kieran Trippier.

The idea may be for Ashby to be developed into Trippier’s eventual successor down the line.

Trippier turns 33 in September and Newcastle do need to think about the future with Emil Krafth and Javi Manquillo hardly likely to stick around.

Hailed as ‘fearless’ even from a young age, Ashby will now hope to really kick on with the Magpies and become a big success at St James’ Park.
