Rangers told to sign outstanding free agent with Celtic interessted to

Kenny Miller says Rangers should consider a move for Benjamin Siegrist this summer, after he became a free agent. The Swiss goalkeeper is a reported target for the Ibrox club’s bitter rivals, Celtic.

Siegrist, 30, confirmed he was leaving Dundee United earlier this summer with a post on Instagram. The ex-Aston Villa stopper has been linked with both Old Firm clubs throughout his time in Scottish football.

During his four-year spell at Dundee United, Siegrist clocked up 145 appearances in all competitions at Tannadice. he has conceded exactly, on average, a goal a game – but also, keeping 52 clean sheets

A player Chris Sutton thinks is “brilliant”, Celtic are interested. But Rangers are also likely to be looking at a goalkeeper with Allan McGregor potentially retiring – and Miller has urged his old side to sign him.

“I think it’s a good option on a free transfer,” Miller told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard. “He has been an outstanding performer in the league for a few seasons now

On a free transfer it would be very good business, and we don’t know what’s going on with McGregor. Rangers or a Celtic should be looking at him on a free transfer. Absolutely.

MILLER: RANGERS SHOULD CONSIDER SIEGRIST, DESPITE CELTIC INTEREST

Siegrist is arguably the best goalkeeper in the Scottish Premiership other than Joe Hart and McGregor – at least he was, until his Dundee United exit. A move to one of the Old Firm clubs looks likely.

It is unclear whether Siegrist wants to remain in Scotland. He could easily generate interest from English clubs, perhaps at Championship level. A move abroad is also a possibility for Siegrist.

But he would be foolish to consider a move anywhere else than Rangers or Celtic. At Parkhead, he would be back-up to Hart but if McGregor goes, a move to Ibrox would see him start.
